Anthony William
Maucione, Jr.
May 17, 1952 – March 19, 2025
Anthony "Tony" William Maucione Jr., 72, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025 on the feast day of St. Joseph, patron saint of "Happy Deaths". Tony, a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend, is leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and selflessness. He was born in Yakima, WA, May 17, 1952 and raised in Clarkston, WA, where his strong work ethic and commitment to others began early—waking before dawn to deliver newspapers and later finding his passion for running.
Tony's love for education led him to Gonzaga University, where he earned his teaching degree before dedicating more than 40 years to shaping young minds and athletes at Gonzaga Prep High School, teaching history and coaching cross country and track. Tony also taught music history as an adjunct professor at Whitworth University for over 25 years. Tony's impact as an educator reached far beyond textbooks as he inspired students with his kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication.
Above all, Tony was a man devoted to his family and his faith. Married to his beloved wife, Janet, for over 31 years, he was a father who always put his children first, finding joy in the simple moments of life spent together. His passion for music, Seahawks and the Zags, and an endless pursuit of knowledge was evident to all who knew him.
Whether reading a book, sharing a story, or just being present, his love was a constant, steady force. Tony will be dearly missed by all, although his absence leaves a void, his friends and family find peace in knowing he is with Jesus.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Janet, his children, Anthony, Dominic, and Juliana. His sister, Mayo Crismon, brother Jeff Maucione, sister-in-laws Ann (Gene) Tierney, and Nancy (Tim) Erlandsen, brother-in-laws Tim and Brent Bayley and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Maucione Sr., Bette Maucione, and father-in-law, Lee Bayley.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, April 3rd at 6:00 pm at Gonzaga Prep in The Chapel of the Three Companions, (1224 East Euclid Avenue). The Funeral Mass to celebrate Tony's life will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, (330 East Boone Avenue), Friday, April 4th at 4:00 pm. A burial service will take place Saturday, April 5th at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery.
