Bernadette Aletha
Reed
July 14, 1937 – April 3, 2021
Bernadette Aletha Reed passed away at the age of 83, on April 3, 2021, after 26 years of a hard fought battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born in Missoula, Montana on July 14 th , 1937 to Ben and Aletha Kelley. At age 9 she moved to her Grandparent's family farm and was raised by her namesake, Bernadette Lawry (Gram). She attended Sacred Heart Academy, graduating in 1955. She went on to attend Gonzaga University for a semester and was a cheerleader, before moving back to Missoula where she got a job at the local A&W. Like all great love stories in the 50's, that's where she met the love of her life, Gene Reed. They married March 24, 1956. After all 4 of their children were born in Missoula, Gene's job transferred them to Spokane. Bernadette was involved in many activities: Alter Society member at St. Thomas Moore Church where the family attended church & grade school, Welcome Wagon/Sojourners group, played on a Bowling league, was a Cheerleading Mom leader, Campfire Girls leader, and enjoyed decades of playing with several card groups. Her favorite personal activities were being a member of the Wandermere Ladies golf league and an avid snow skier. She was a stay-at-home Mom until her children were in their teens, never missing a game or school event, always being their biggest supporter. Bernadette made a career as the Head Secretary at Mead Jr. High where she retired in 1995, just in time to become a full-time Grandmother, known to her 6 Grandkids as "Gram B". Bernadette and Gene spent their summers at their cabin on Priest Lake, showing their Kids and Grandkids how to water ski, hike, and pick Huckleberries, and most of all how to appreciate nature, enjoying sunsets, and sitting around the campfire. She was always eager to beat someone in a game of Crazy-8s. Bernadette never missed a holiday when it came to sending cards to family. Her love of listening to Elvis, watching the Utah Jazz, and Dancing with the Stars were other favorite past times.
So, when Our Lord called on Her to take a walk alongside Him, she eagerly agreed. Bernadette is preceded in death by her husband Gene 2015; eldest daughter Stacey Marie Madson 2001; Granddaughter Leah 1983, Sister Winafred (Wendy) Renz 2019, and Brother in-law Bob Reed 2021. Leaving behind her children; Rick (Beth) Reed and their children Matthew and Clint of Lake Chelan, WA. Linda Rae Osmonson and her children Austin and Christopher of Spokane Valley, WA. Kelley (Daniel) Leifer and their children Aaron and Heleena (Andrew Gardner and Great Gram-Son Emerson) of Spokane WA. Sister in-law Betty Reed. Brother in-law Fred Renz. Best friends for over 55 years Shirley and Chris, and several cousins. A very special thanks to Hospice of Spokane and Angelic Home Care for assisting with her care.
