Carol
Ohlson
December 11, 1932 – July 11, 2024
Carol Monica Ohlson (Christanson), a longtime resident of Spokane Valley, Washington, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, at the age of 91. Carol was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on December 11, 1932, to Christ and Delphine Christanson. She had many wonderful memories of growing up in Coeur d'Alene. She and her siblings Roy and Adele enjoyed swimming at the city beach, riding their bikes, and going on rides at the pier. Carol and Adele were Camp Fire Girls, and they looked forward to annual summer weeks at Camp Sweyolakan on Lake Coeur d'Alene.
Carol's family moved to Rockford, Washington, where Carol attended high school and met her sweetheart, Herb. Carol attended Eastern Washington State College before she and Herb married. Their first daughter, Jenean, was born in Pullman, Washington, where Herb graduated from Washington State College. The young family moved to Kansas and then Texas before arriving in Seattle, Washington, where their second daughter, Karen, was born. Soon, they made their home in the Spokane Valley and joined St. Mary's Catholic Parish. Carol's faith was very important to her, and she instilled that in her daughters.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother and a talented homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, which her mother taught her on a treadle machine. Karen and Jenean are thankful that she passed this talent down to them. Carol volunteered as a room mother in the girls' classrooms at St. Mary's school and as a Girl Scout leader. When her daughters married, Carol lovingly welcomed "her boys," Michael and Dave, with
open arms.
Carol and Herb enjoyed traveling within the region, across the country, and internationally. They loved learning about new places and meeting the locals. One of Carol's favorite trips was a cruise of the Baltic Sea, where they disembarked in St. Petersburg and flew to Moscow for lunch at Red Square. Carol and Herb enjoyed ballroom dancing, and they forged long-lasting friendships through their dance club.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Christ and Delphine Christanson, brother LeRoy Christanson, sister Adele Connell, and infant daughter Lois Ann Ohlson. Carol is survived by her husband of 72 years, Herbert, and daughters Jenean (Michael) Hughes and Karen (David) Ogden.
Carol Ohlson leaves a legacy of love and gratitude.
Gifts in Carol's memory can be sent to Camp Fire Inland NW at 1014 N. Pines Road Suite 110, Spokane Valley, Washington 99206.
