Carol Sicilia
Wheeler
April 22, 1939 – April 2, 2026
Carol Sicilia Wheeler passed away peacefully to join Christ in the early hours of April 2, 2026, in Spokane, WA, surrounded by loved ones. Born April 22, 1939, in Spokane, Washington, Carol lived a life defined by love, loyalty, strength, and devotion to God, family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard E. Wheeler in 1983, a profound loss to all of us, our Mom’s strength shined like a beacon as we moved forward after Dad’s death; her parents, John, and Teresa Sicilia, whom she adored; her brother Babe Sicilia and his wife Lynda; nephew-in-law Nelson Morris, our cousin Teresa’s husband, who we lost too soon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins from her large family.
Carol is survived by her two beloved sons and their wives, Bret and Jill Wheeler, Joel and Theresa Wheeler; sister Beverly Driggs and brother-in-law, Darrell Driggs; we also thank Tim Sicilia and his wife Cindy, who consistently visited Mom, and, of course, Dixie Korum. Dixie, her lifelong friend and cousin, who enjoyed good and harrowing times together, with a little mischief from time to time!
She was a devoted grandmother to Bret’s children who consistently remained in her life, Joshua Albright whom she affectionately called “Josherini” and his wife, Kathleen Albright, Briton Wheeler, lovingly known to her as “Britoni” and his wife, Evelyn Wheeler. Our Mom has a special bond with granddaughter Victoria Wheeler, who really showed her love for grandma weekly, and Vic’s fiancé Kellen Clute. Sterling Oakland, and her husband Joel Oakland. She was also a great-grandmother to Sterling and Joel’s children Monroe, Ellerie, and Lennon, whom she enjoyed through the countless pictures and videos.
As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend, Carol offered steady support, comfort, and a listening ear in times of joy and difficulty. To her many friends, she was a loyal companion. She cherished time with her niece Teresa Morris and nephew Darren Driggs, who lovingly called her “Auntie Kee” and stayed close throughout her life. Mom enjoyed Teresa and Nelson’s children, Mason, Pierson, and Cecelia, who brought her happiness watching them grow up to adulthood.
Carol loved everything with horses, documenting our lives through photos, often being asked by her nieces and nephews to be responsible for taking their wedding photos, which she excelled at with all her energy and joy. She enjoyed seeing movies at the theater, and spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She loved a good laugh and had a quick wit that stayed with her throughout her life.
We extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Bev, Teresa, Victoria, Briton and Evelyn who visited mom consistently, Carol’s caregivers who provided her with incredible care, and to all who checked in, called, or shared video messages with her over her last years.
All are welcome to celebrate Carol’s life on Saturday, April 18th at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, with a private interment to follow with her burial with our father.
Carol’s spirit, generous heart, and the memories she created with family and friends will be treasured forever.
