Casaundra (Sandy) Calbreath was born on August 29, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to Robert and Martha Abernathy. She grew up in the D.C. area with her four siblings—Stephanie, Susan, Charlotte, and Mark—within a family environment that fostered faith, hospitality, and love, qualities that would define her life.

Sandy married Don and began their life together in Durham, North Carolina—a place they both loved. In time, they made their home in Spokane, Washington, where they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion. Sandy took great pride in her family and never ceased finding ways to care for her daughters, Caroline and Gwendolyn; her grandchildren—Marisa, Matt, Kit, Rebecca, and Susanna; and her great-granddaughters—Denny, Mason, and Remi.

Sandy possessed a genuine interest in others and consistently went out of her way to offer kindness and support. She never met a stranger and was known as a true Southern lady and a devoted follower of Jesus. Her warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Professionally, Sandy served as Senior Trust Officer at Northwest Trustee and Management, where she was admired for her sense of responsibility, intelligence, and compassion.

In retirement, Sandy embraced her love of quilting, creating treasured works for her family. She remained active in her church, teaching Sunday school and serving faithfully in many capacities, reflecting her lifelong commitment to service and hospitality.

Sandy passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, in the presence of her family. She will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church (317 2nd Street, Cheney, WA). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy's honor to Life Services of Spokane.
