Don Edward
Dodroe
January 1, 1958 – May 15, 2021
Don Edward Dodroe passed away on May 15, 2021 at his home in Spokane. Don was born January 1,1958 in Spokane, Washington the son of Edward H. and Colleen M. Dodroe. Don attended St. Charles Catholic School, graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory High School in 1976, and Eastern Washington University in 1982 where he earned a degree in business administration. Don worked for nearly forty years in the construction materials sales industry, developing many lifelong friends over the course of his career.
In 1986 he married Linda Thorson in Lewiston, Idaho, and their daughter, Kirsten was born in 1998. Don's father exposed his four sons to many adventures in their younger days. They would fish the many lakes around the Spokane area, giving a dollar prize for the biggest rainbow trout caught. They would also hunt for game birds around the Palouse, a tradition Don religiously maintained for his entire life. This began a love of all things outdoors for Don. Along with hunting and fishing, his passions included river rafting, golf, and travel. Most of all, Don loved getting together with family and friends and cooking huge, elaborate meals, often with the spoils of the hunt. Whether cooking in his own home, or in one of his family's or friend's, chaos reigned, and not a single pot, pan, or dish would be left unturned. The meals were invariably delicious, fabulous affairs. After his retirement, Don spent his days adventuring throughout the Pacific Northwest, always in the company of his dog, Blue. Don will be remembered for his relentless generosity, the keen eye he used for spotting wildlife in the outdoors, and his love of throwing a good party.
A week prior to his death, he was fishing the Missouri River in Montana and hunting prairie dogs with his best buddies. Don enjoyed life to the fullest and lived for the next adventure. His daughter, Kirsten was the light of his life, and he was able to expose her to many different countries and cultures including a spring break trip to Paris when she was ten years old.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Colleen Dodroe, sister, Maureen Graves, and brother, David Dodroe. He is survived by his daughter, Kirsten, brothers, Steve (Beate) and Paul (Maureen), sister, Correen (Brian) Castaldi, and nieces and nephews, Sara, Nicholas, Marcus, Kate and Emma, and his beloved dog, Blue. Also, his best buddies who he termed his "other brothers," Dee, Mike, Rick, Gary, Joe, Dave, Chris, Pat, Cesar, Marty and many others.
