Donald
Gorman
September 9, 1936 – November 14, 2024
Donald Thomas Gorman, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, at his home in Spokane Valley.
Don was born in Kalispell, MT on September 9, 1936, to Patrick D. Gorman and Madeleine C.V. Gorman (Groh), and was the eldest of five children. He moved to Spokane as a young child, and grew up exploring the area, participating in Boy Scouts and the Duke's Auto Club, and after high school, he joined U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves.
He met the love of his life, Janet A. Drometer, and were married in Cannon Falls, MN on January 16, 1965. They raised their four daughters in a home filled with love, happiness and a lot of patience in Spokane Valley.
During his career and in his retirement, he spent his time making wine, volunteering, attending events for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, time with his friends, and listening to jazz while rebuilding cars and building models.
Don loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchild unconditionally. He never failed to put his family first and provided them with whatever was needed, be it help with a project, a hug or an ear. He was known for, and will be remembered for his kindness, patience, compassion, storytelling and his love of sweets, especially cinnamon rolls.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, his parents, and his sister Mary Louise Young.
Don is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Steve Johnson), Ann (Joe Felice), Chris, and Colleen (Buffalo Fiege); his grandchildren, Breann, Haley (Wyatt Wickham), and Seth; Thalia and Nick, and his great granddaughter, Baylor; his brother Michael and his sisters Geraldine "Jerry", and Marian.
The family would like to thank Orchard Crest Retirement Community staff and medical teams for the loving and dedicated care they provided to Don.
There will be a vigil and rosary service on Friday, December 27 at 4 pm and a funeral mass will be held on Saturday December 28 at 11 am, both at St. Mary Catholic Church, Spokane Valley. Immediately following the funeral mass, a luncheon reception will be held in the Adult Center where we can gather to share stories about Don. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Spokane Valley Heritage Museum and enjoy a cinnamon roll while you think of Don.
