Obituary

Elaine Amelia Lordan (92) passed peacefully on April 23, 2022, at Spiritwood at Pine Lake in Issaquah, WA. The daughter of Roy and Amelia Hoerner (née Berger), she was born on October 17, 1929, in Richardton, ND. The large, growing family, and many of her father's siblings and their families, moved to Spokane in the mid-30's in search of greener pastures. They found success in many endeavors, including new-home construction and the building-supply business.

Elaine's stellar work ethic was instilled at a young age. She was a proud 1947 graduate of the all-girl Catholic high school, Marycliff, in Spokane. She worked at a soda fountain to help pay for her tuition. A banner above one of the chalkboards she saw daily particularly inspired her strong belief in women's education: "If you educate a man, you educate a man, if you educate a woman, you educate a family."

She was passionate about education while raising her two daughters, delighting in her granddaughter's interest in learning, and convincing hundreds of women to earn their medical training certificates, when she was the Director of Admissions at a technical school during the late 80's to early 90's in Anaheim, CA.

Elaine moved to Anaheim in the early 60's and returned to the Pacific Northwest in the mid-90's.  She worked for over 15 years as the on-site Property Manager of a senior apartment complex in Bothell, WA until she retired at the amazing age of 82.  She knew how to make the residents feel like one big family.

Elaine's talents and interests were many and varied. It seemed she could do everything from being wildly successful at work, cooking amazing meals, making the holidays extremely special, sewing, dressing very stylishly, enjoying crafts and gardening to replacing plumbing, rewiring light fixtures, and hanging up blinds. She enjoyed many genres of music from classical to rock and roll. Elvis and Steve Perry were top among her favorites.

Elaine waited a long time to become a grandmother. When it finally happened at age 72, she found a whole new purpose in life! Audrey brought her a great deal of happiness.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and their spouses, Evelyn Kimpel (Edward), Amelia Patterson and Patricia Gaffney (James), her brothers Orion, Edward and Roy Hoerner, her infant son, Gregory Jerome Lordan, and her sister-in-law, Donna Hoerner. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Lordan (Chris Walker) and Kathleen Lordan Morris, her granddaughter, Audrey Morris, her brother, Donald Hoerner, her sisters-in-law Marilyn Hoerner and Mary Hoerner Riddle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
