Obituary

Eleanor (Elly) Donnelly, our beloved mother, was born on February 6, 1938, to Emil and Charlotte Wencel in Graceville, Minnesota. With family by her side, she passed peacefully on January 17, 2025.

Elly married James (Jim) Donnelly on September 3, 1960, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Their 55-year marriage exemplified lifelong love until Jim's passing.

Elly dedicated 30 years of her professional life working at K-mart, where she contributed to various departments with dedication and diligence.

Elly frequently spent time in her kitchen, baking, canning, planning and preparing food for family events or gatherings with friends. Recognized for her outstanding hosting skills, she ensured that all guests felt welcomed and valued. She spent summers at Sun-Up Bay on Lake Coeur D'Alene, enjoying time with lifelong friends she and Jim had made. There were often fish stories being told over a cold beverage of the big one that got away. Elly also enjoyed playing cards with pinochle being one of her favorites.

Elly's culinary talents, particularly her Christmas cookies and treats, were legendary. She would bake an astonishing amount of goodies to share with family and friends, an annual tradition eagerly anticipated by all. Her skills extended to canning and knitting, and she generously shared her knowledge, teaching others her beloved crafts.

Elly's legacy of love and generosity lives on through her surviving family: her son Owen (Ginny); daughter Denita; grandchildren Matthew, Melanie (Nik), and Richard (Cally); step-grandchildren Derrick (Shawna), Carrisa (Christian), and Dustin; and step-great-grandchildren Chloe, Caleb, Abby, Carson, and Dominic. She is also survived by her brother, David Wencel, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Jim; parents Emil and Charlotte; sisters Marcella and Lucy.

Elly was known for her generosity and care. She was continually active, often saying, "I'll rest in Heaven."

Elly will be remembered by those who knew her, and her acts of generosity and love will serve as an example to those she influenced.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals that took excellent care of Elly over the years.

Elly requests that memorial contributions be directed to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or a charity organization of the donor's choosing.
