Elizabeth M.
Mosely
June 27, 1926 – December 12, 2020
Elizabeth M. (Betty) Mosely passed away on December 12, 2020 at the Brookdale Care Center in Spokane.
She was born Elizabeth Mary Cronin in Spokane on June 27, 1926. She was the oldest child of Timothy and Julianne Cronin, Irish emigrants from County Cork. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Francis Xavier Church, and received a parochial scholarship to Marycliff High School in 1940. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Barstone Fuel Co. until her marriage to Donald Mosely in 1948. Betty and Don both grew up in the Hays Park neighborhood, and first met when Don came over to play basketball with her brothers.
They bought a house on the northside of Spokane and raised 5 children, 4 boys
and 1 girl. Don had a busy career with Bitco/Kaman Bearing, while Betty managed the home. She was an active member of St Thomas More parish for 60 years. She also did volunteer work at Holy Family Hospital and for Spokane County, at the Victim Witness department. She was a poll worker during elections, and continued her bookkeeping work during the years they owned Acme Machine Works in the 1970's.
Betty was proud to be Irish, and always voted as a Democrat. She loved going out to the family cabin on Lake Coeur d'Alene and delighted in any and all social occasions. She seemed to know everyone in town and took a genuine interest in the lives of her friends and large, extended family. She was her own kind of social media before there was such a thing!
Betty was pre-deceased by her husband Donald, sons Mike Mosely, Mark Mosely, and brothers Mike Cronin, Frank Cronin, SJ, and Neil Cronin.
She is survived by her daughter Colleen Schwartz (Harvey) of Bellingham, sons Terrance Mosely of Spokane, Jeff Mosely of Seattle, and Mark's wife, Debbie Mosely, of Poulsbo. She was the proud grandmother to Jerome (Shannon) Schwartz and Devan Schwartz, granddaughters Janae (Ben) Carrothers, Cailan and Brynna Mosely, Lucy and Lana Leydon, and great-grandsons Theo and Rowan Schwartz. The family appreciates all the love and care for "Aunt Betty" from her nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Sheila Masteller.
A private burial service to be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. A celebration of
Betty's life will be planned for a later date, when we can safely gather again.
