Eugene Philip
Chauvin, Iii
August 6, 1943 – October 22, 2019
Eugene Philip (Phil) Chauvin III was born August 6, 1943, in Merrill, WI, the son of Eugene Philip Chauvin Jr. and Marie (Ritchie) Chauvin. He passed away on October 22, 2019, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA, after a sudden, brief illness. Phil spent his formative years in Merrill and Wausau, WI. Phil graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point majoring in history. There he met and married Eloise (Ellie) Yelk on August 6, 1966. They lived in Stevens Point, Marshfield and Madison WI, Storm Lake, IA, Marquette, MI, and Rolling Meadows, IL, before moving to Spokane, WA, in 2016.
He enlisted in the National Guard, Merrill, WI, and served from 1966-1972. Phil worked for Thorp Finance Corporation for two years, followed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years. He finished his career with the British Petroleum Corporation. During the majority of his professional years, he worked as an internal auditor. Phil was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan and was a shareholder of Green Bay Packers, Inc. Phil enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He spent time with his young family on road trips and camping. He was an avid bridge player playing three to four days a week with his Spokane friends. Phil loved to do genealogy research. He was always eager to help investigate someone's family. He volunteered at Arlington Heights Library in IL and the Family History Center in Spokane, performing research for people who were curious about their ancestry. Phil also volunteered at the Southside Food Pantry and was Communion Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Church. He and Ellie were involved with the Catholic Engaged Encounter and engaged parish preparation programs for twelve years in the Chicago diocese. After retirement, Phil and Ellie traveled 160,000 miles through the United States and Canadian provinces in their Roadtrek RV. On these journeys, they made many new friends, did a lot of hiking, and explored the history of the places they visited. Phil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eloise (Ellie) Yelk Chauvin; son, Eugene (Gene) and wife Yvonne Chauvin, Cypress, TX; daughter, Corrina Chauvin Miller and husband, Tait Miller, Kenmore, WA and son Ted Chauvin and wife Allison Chauvin, Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Jason Chauvin, Nicole Romanowski, Teagan Miller, Cooper Miller and Adelaide Chauvin; sisters Jean (Bruce) English and Kerry (Rick) Hass; and one nephew and three nieces.
