Obituary

Florence "Rennie" Miller, a vibrant and unstoppable force of love, joy, and resilience, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, after a courageous 30-plus-year battle with breast cancer. She lived every moment with energy, never one to sit still, always finding beauty in the world around her and forming lasting friendships wherever she went.

Born on December 12, 1949, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Agnes and William Osborn, Rennie embraced life with a spirit of adventure and generosity. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Medical Education in Allied Health and a Certification in Human Resources Management from Rutgers University, New Jersey, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey. She also obtained two professional certifications from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Registered Medical Technologist and a Specialist in Microbiology, demonstrating her expertise and dedication to the field.

Her professional career spanned over 15 years in medical laboratory and medical services, where she took her responsibility for people's health seriously. She later devoted over 20 years to working with youth in schools as a reading educator, substitute teacher, and tennis coach.

Rennie coached girls' tennis at Mead High School for over 15 years, where she was affectionately known as "Coach Mill" by her players. She inspired young athletes with her passion, dedication, and unwavering support. She was also an enthusiastic member of the North Park Athletic Club Tennis community for many years, where she formed lasting friendships and continued to share her love for the sport.

Her passion for mentorship extended to the Girl Scouts, where she dedicated 18 years as a leader, trainer, and outdoor skills instructor. She took immense pride in guiding many of her scouts to achieve the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting.

Rennie was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid quilter, seamstress, skier, camper, and hiker who embraced every season with enthusiasm. She also found joy in volunteering at the Mead Food Bank, giving back to the community she loved so much. She loved playing golf at Wandermere Golf Course, where she enjoyed time outdoors with friends and family.

Above all, Rennie cherished her family. She and Richard were devoted partners for 50 wonderful years, raising their two beautiful daughters, Caitlin and Corinne. Becoming a grandmother brought her immense joy, and she treasured every moment with her grandchildren, Maddie and Charlie. Her love extended to the family's four-legged members as well, particularly Teddy, her beloved dog, and Padfoot, her grand-dog, who brightened her days with their loving companionship.

Rennie was a light in so many lives. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her wisdom invaluable, and her signature exclamation—"Yea, baby!"—a testament to the joy she found in life's little and big moments alike.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard.  Her daughters Caitlin Normington and Husband Sam, Corinne Miller and her partner Christian Monahan. Her adored grandchildren Maddie and Charlie Normington; her sister, Marcia Lavin; her brother, William Osborn and Wife Roberta; her beloved dog, Teddy; and her grand-dog, Padfoot. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched, but her spirit, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A small Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 7, at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert, WA. A celebration of Rennie's life will be held at a future date.
