Frank J
Reichert
June 30, 1930 – April 5, 2021
Francis Joseph Reichert of Spokane, Washington, after several months of declining health, passed away Monday April 5, 2021 at the age of 90. His wife of 65 years was at his side.
Frank was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on June 30, 1930, to Matt and Lydia Reichert. The eldest of three children, Frank graduated from Mandan High School and, in 1952, received an Engineering degree from the University of Portland.
After graduation he was hired by the US Army Corps of Engineers, where he worked for 33 years and helped design and construct several hydroelectric dams including the Garrison Dam in North Dakota, the Libby Dam in Montana, and Chief Joseph Dam in Washington State.
In 1952, while working for the Corps in North Dakota, Frank was introduced to a fellow employee, Helen Bernice Wallace. They were married on September 1, 1955 and their marriage brought four children into the world.
Frank's last job with the Corps was as resident engineer of Chief Joseph Dam. Retiring from the Corps in 1985 he was immediately hired by CH2M Hill, a private consulting firm. He lent his engineering expertise to several projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 1988, Frank retired for the second time after which he and Helen moved to Spokane.
A devout Catholic, Frank was active in church activities. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he donated his time, talent, and treasure to numerous Church-sponsored charities.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Lydia Reichert. He is survived by his brother Charles, sister Alice Jean (Pfenning), wife Helen, children William, Carol, Thomas, and Robert, and grandchildren Hana, Chris, and Nolan.
In lieu of flowers, people wishing to honor Frank's lifelong commitment to family and community may make donations to Assumption Church.
