Obituary

Franklin J Urbaniak was born in Spokane, WA on May 19, 1957 to Raymond and Gladys Urbaniak. On March 22, 2021 he suddenly passed away. Frank was the sixth of seven children. He graduated from Shadle Park High School and then took welding classes at SCC. He had a 30+ year career with the railroad as a welder for Burlington Northern in Spokane and then as a welder/carman for Amtrak in Chicago, finishing his career in Seattle. He retired less than 2 years ago and moved "home" to Spokane shortly after. Frank was the quietest presence in our large family, but when taking the time to engage him, it became a rare opportunity to get to know him as a unique and interesting individual. He had an unexpected sense of humor, most recently entertaining us with funny GIFs to brighten our spirits during the pandemic. He also had a very sentimental side, never missing an opportunity to send the most beautiful and perfectly worded card for all occasions. As a child he found his place in Boy Scouts and as an adult he took to wood carving and wood working. He also loved to cook, barbeque and use his smoker. Frank's life was cut far too short and we will forever miss what made him so special to our family, and that was his quiet presence. Frank is survived by his brothers, Dick, Lee (Sherrie), John and Bob (Mary) and his sisters, Janice Winninghoff (Jack) and Donna Sweeny (Kevin).
