Obituary

Gary Dale Girod died April 19, 2026, in Spokane, WA. He was born on December 4,1937 in Duncan, Oklahoma to J.C. Girod and Camilla Boles. His parents preceded him in death.

Gary married Judith Jean Girod in Spokane in 1960 and moved to Ojai Valley, California where they made their home for 61 years. In recent years, they moved back to Spokane, WA. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Judith preceded him in death.

Gary is survived by his daughters Susan Girod Scott (Bob), Amy Girod Zuniga (Jesse), his grandchildren Rachel, Matthew, Samuel, Sarah and his great grandchildren, Milo and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his sister and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary served in the U.S. Airforce from 1956-1960. He was a crew chief jet mechanic with the 49th Interceptor Squadron. Gary retired after 28 years from the Ventura County Fire Department. He had obtained the rank of Battalion Chief and for many years was the Training Chief. The last 2 years with the department were in Fire Prevention, where he helped develop the Haz Mat Division. Gary enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, clock repair and writing limericks.

Gary was an active member for 30 years of the Ojai Valley Community Church where he served as an elder under founding paster, Frank Christensen. He was also active in the Ojai Presbyterian Church for 10 years. He continued to attend church in Spokane.

There will be a celebration of life and memorial service in Green Bluff, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local charity.
