Gay Akers, born on January 15, 1947, in Ritzville Washington passed away on June 30, 2026, in Spokane Washington at the Hospice House from her dementia.

She grew up and went to high school in Ritzville, was married twice and had two daughters. She was a mom, a cook, owned a fruit stand and lived on a farm for most of her adult life in Ritzville. In the early 2000’s she moved to Spokane and attended a computer school, worked for Bank of America and then became a caregiver. She was a longstanding member of the Eagles and a devout attender of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Gay loved taking care of and spending time with her daughter Leona and her two granddaughters, Mateja and Maelyne. She loved to flirt, her favorite saying was, “Oh well, that’s the way it goes, first your money, then your clothes!”

Gay is survived by her daughter; Leona Lowry (Josh, Denice Kienbaum (Dallas), brothers; Allen Ailzer (Debbie), Brian Hilzer (Joette), granddaughters; Mateja and Maelyne Lowry and others. Stepchildren; Terri, April, Mike and Pete and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Akers, Parents; Victor and Stella, sister Linda Key and stepson Don and stepdaughter Marilyn Hilzer.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 13 at 12:00PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N Wall St, Spokane WA 99208 with a reception to follow at the VFW post 51 at 300 W. Mission Ave, Spokane WA 99201.
