Obituary

Genia Mary Hoffman, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away May 21 at the age of 94. Born December 21, 1930, in Mundare, Alberta, Canada, Genia was the daughter of Stanley and Angela Samaska. She grew up in Hilliard, Alberta alongside her brothers Joe (Winnie) and John (Muriel), and from an early age was known for her independence, warmth, and adventurous spirit.

After completing business college in Edmonton, Genia's journey took her to Spokane, Washington, and later to California, where she worked and enjoyed many adventures. A family emergency brought her back to Edmonton, but she returned to Spokane, where
she met and married Reimund Hoffman. Genia joined Reimund as he farmed his family's homestead in Eastern Montana and they had two daughters.

Following Reimund's diagnosis with Alzheimer's Disease, Genia moved the family back to Spokane so he could receive the medical care he needed. After his passing in 1980, she remained in Spokane, where she dedicated herself to raising her daughters. During these years, she worked at an insurance company and was active in her community through the PTA and Altar Society at St. Charles.

Despite pain and joint damage from rheumatoid arthritis, Genia liked to stay busy and loved crafting, baking, gardening, reading and playing games with friends. She welcomed everyone to her home with at least a baked treat, and no one left without a
"thank you" and her bright smile.

Genia returned to school later in life, becoming a medical transcriptionist and working at Sacred Heart Medical Center until her retirement at age 70. Her retirement was filled with cherished time spent with family, friends, and her church community. The family
extends heartfelt thanks to all those who supported and helped her, she was very grateful.

In 2020, Genia moved to Seattle to be closer to her daughters as her care needs increased. She remained surrounded by love, grace, and dignity until her passing.

She is survived by her daughters Debbie (Brent) Williams and Jeanne Hoffman (Pat Nixon), her grandchildren Madison and Connor Williams, her brothers and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A funeral Mass will be held at St Charles Catholic Church on Saturday June 14 at 12:00pm, followed by a reception and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Genia will be remembered for her strength, unwavering devotion to her family and faith,
and the warmth she brought to all who knew her.
