We lost Hans, at 93, on May 8th, surrounded by his family. Remaining family include sister and husband, Burglind and Ed Schneidmiller; nephew and wife, Timothy and Sheena Schneidmiller; niece and husband, Tamera and Maurice Searcy; many loving cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul Gregor Franz Wolff and Margate Gertrud Wolff (Simon).
Hans, born December 25, 1930 in Berlin, became the man of the house on May 25, 1940 when his father died in the war. He immigrated to Canada on February 12, 1953 and became a citizen in December 1959. His mother and sister joined and followed his immigration journey. Hans became a US citizen in 1962 and settled in California before calling Spokane Washington home.
Hans completed his journeyman's examination for barbers on September 27, 1949 in Germany and after immigrating to Canada he obtained his Canadian certificate February 10, 1961. Hans was inspired and obtained his US High School Diploma on November 30, 1968.
Hans was an explorer of places of new and old. His family describes him as an adventurer and creative. His interest includes current global issues and history. He read both American and German newspapers daily for years. He was motivated by neither power nor money and there was a basic honesty and kindness in his interactions with others, an absence of pretensions. After arriving in Spokane, he quickly made new friends and joined the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was great company and deeply loved by his family.
Donations in his memory can be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4704 N Wall St, Spokane, WA 99205. Letters of condolences can be sent to his sister Burglind Schneidmiller, 104 Burnett Ave. S, Renton, WA 98057.
