Obituary

Jim Hutton was born to Clarence (Cy) and Mary Grace Hutton in Spokane Washington on April 22 nd 1931.  His early years were spent at the Victoria Hotel in Downtown Spokane where some of his fondest memories were made before moving to North Spokane.  Jim graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1948 and attended Gonzaga University where he obtained a master's degree in education.  He went on to marry Mary Louise Stapleton on June 2, 1956. Together Jim and 'Weeze' raised four children.  Jim went on to become the principal at Rogers, Ferris and Shadle Park High Schools before retiring as an Area Director for District 81.  He served for a number of years on the WIAA Executive Committee where he made lifelong friendships.

After retirement Jim volunteered time to the House of Charity, St Thomas More and Gonzaga Prep.  He then went on to drive cars at Appleway Automotive where he transported new cars around the Western United States. Jim and Weeze made many memories traveling with friends across the United States, Europe and the Caribbean and visited Weeze's family in Ireland.  They also enjoyed theater and symphony events with friends and were Gonzaga University Women's basketball season ticket holders.

Jim was a devout Catholic and was a charter member of St. Thomas More Parish.  He was a compassionate man with deep integrity that he passed on to those he came in contact with, whether professionally or to those he met in his everyday life.

The most important thing to Jim was family. He took great joy in time spent with grandchildren and was present for the many activities, events, and celebrations in their lives.  Their home and the lake cabin at Diamond Lake were the sites of many family celebrations.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife Mary Louise, his sister Barbara Cossette (Terry), his son Kevin Hutton (Cheryl), his son Denny Hutton (Patricia), his daughter Maureen Olson (Ken), and his daughter Meeghan Hutton.  Jim is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney Natenstedt (Eric), Brian Hutton (Inna), Stacey Nelson (Mike), Kailey Simmons (Cody), Ryan Olson, Danielle Stephens, Shelby Pederson and great granddaughter Layton Simmons. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the care and love shown to Jim and his family by the staff of Rockwood North at Whitworth and Hospice of Spokane. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Catholic Charities (House of Charity), Gonzaga Prep or Hospice of Spokane.
