James Henry Pfitzner passed away on April 5, 2021. He was born March 3, 1937 in Mount Vernon, MO. James was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Audrey, and eldest son David.
Jim grew up on a farm in Mount Vernon, Missouri. At 18 years old he joined the Air National Guard and was sent to Spokane, WA. He met beautiful Audrey while working at the Spokane Airport. They would marry and raise 7 children. He loved electronics and airplanes, and worked as an electronic and avionic technician for many years, receiving accolades and awards throughout his 40-plus years he served in the military. He commanded a team to Desert Storm and served as Chief Senior Master Sergeant (Pfitz) before retiring in 1994.
Jim was a kind, hardworking man, who was always available to help anyone out when needed. He loved working on cars, boats, snowmobiles, stereos, and anything mechanical. He co-owned Installation Plus with his wife Audrey and sons David and Jerome. It was a successful car stereo and alarm company in Kennewick, Washington for many years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, dancing, and family gatherings. He was an exercise fanatic who loved running, elliptical, treadmill and swimming. He was always fit. He enjoyed doing the Bloomsday run with family and friends. He would always post the best time of the family and usually finished around an hour, even into his 70s. In later years, he volunteered at Bloomsday with daughter Mary. Jim and Audrey were great fans of Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball and the Seattle Mariners baseball, and they loved taking their family camping to beautiful Wallowa Lake, OR and to Disneyland in California. After retiring, they bought a condo in Kent, WA and spent time there visiting family. In later years Jim loved to watch movies and really enjoyed Old Westerns. Most important to Jim was spending time and helping his children and grandchildren whenever he could.
He is survived by children Linda Miklos (Ray) of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy Riser of Kirkland, WA, Cheryl Hendrickx, Mary Huggins (Randy), and Patrice Bichler, all of Spokane, WA, and Jerome Pfitzner, (Keri) of Kent, WA.
Grandchildren include Sheena Hargrave (Spokane, WA) Crystal Rogers (Lisbon, Portugal) John James (Shoreline, WA) Jeremy James (Lisbon, Portugal), Madison Grulke-Pfitzner (Tacoma, WA) and Melissa Huggins, Andrew Brock (Summer), Christina Huggins (Jessica), Alexis Bichler, and Jared Bichler, all of Spokane.
Great-grandsons include Logan Hargrave (Spokane, WA) Fletcher Rogers (Lisbon, Portugal) and Wyatt and Sawyer James (Shoreline, WA.)
Siblings include Tom Pfitzner (FT Bragg, CA), Rita Donica (Republic, MO), Bob Pfitzner (Glen Carbon, IL) Kenny Pfitzner (Republic, MO), Janice Hermann, (Chesterfield, MO), Carl Pfitzner (Easton, KS). Preceded in death by brothers Matthew and Michael.
