Obituary

Janice H. Kaley, (87) of Spokane, Washington passed away on May 8, 2024, leaving behind decades of faithful love and compassion.

Jan was born on June 22, 1936, in Newberg, OR and raised in Wilbur, WA by Amos and Frieda Wright. She graduated from the St. Joseph's Hospital Nursing Program in Bellingham WA, in October of 1957. She moved to Spokane and started her 46-year nursing career at Sacred Heart Medical Center. It was in Spokane where she met Joe Kaley and they were married on April 26th, 1958, and raised five children.

Jan worked as a Registered Nurse for many years before being promoted to Asst. Supervisor of Nursing. After moving to their home in Chattaroy, she became the School Nurse for the Riverside School District and spent the next several years serving both the school district and the patients and staff at Sacred Heart. She retired from both careers by 2006.  She then volunteered for The House of Charity medical clinic as a volunteer RN and was an information desk volunteer at Sacred Heart for a decade.

Jan was passionate about her family and always supported her children's activities.  She could be found at any number of games and music programs, always in the stands cheering them on. She was a fiercely loyal friend and always had a shoulder available to lean on or a sympathetic ear for those who needed someone to listen to them. She loved her home in Chattaroy, her many flower gardens and enjoyed camping, road tripping and traveling, especially to Hawaii, making many trips there over the years.

She was active in many organizations and faith communities including Alter Society, The Spokane Police Wives Guild, and used her love of music to serve as the parish organist at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer Park for many years. She always trusted in God's goodness and providence and now goes to her eternal home.

Jan was predeceased in death by Joe, her husband of 64 years, and is survived by her five children, Mike (Paula), Brenda (Greg), Steve, Bill (Lisa) and Dave (KC), and her grandchildren Rheanna, Jacob, Colter, Calissa, and Nick.

Our family would like to acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care shown to her by the South Hill Village Memory Care team in Unit B. You were kind, professional and loving to mom and always knew how to get a laugh out of her. You made her last 15 months so enjoyable and we can't thank you enough!
