Joan Detmer passed away August 4, 2026 at age 89 after a lengthy bout with lung cancer. She leaves behind her husband Craig Detmer, who she married in 2009, and four of her five children, Rick Sasek, Spokane, WA, Glen Sasek, Fayetteville, FL, Kenny Lee Sky, Ft Lauderdale, FL, Rick Sasek, Spokane, WA, and Sheila King (Kelly), DuPont, WA. Toni Davenport is deceased. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as stepchildren Jack Detmer (Monique), Saratoga Springs, UT and Maddie Detmer, Spokane.

Joan had a 40-year career as a tax preparer, accountant, and bookkeeper and worked 10 years as a technical writer for an Aerospace Company. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1979 with a degree in finance while working and raising a family.

Joan had a variety of interests that included ballroom, tap and ballet dancing, doll collecting, sewing, quilting, playing piano and singing. She was a volunteer ESL instructor at her former church. She was an accomplished artist and loved creating portraits and still lives. She found time to travel to Europe and China over the years.

A funeral service and reception will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E 18th Avenue, on Monday, August 17th, starting at 11:00 a.m. A committal service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
