Obituary

John Edward Ahern passed away on Saturday, December 19th, 2020.  He was 86 years old.

John was born in Havre, Montana in 1934 and grew up in Silver Springs, Maryland.  He attended the University of Maryland on a Track scholarship for running.  He eventually completed a Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Denver while serving six years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Married to Nancy Knapp in 1962, he moved to Spokane to study Law at Gonzaga University.  It was in Spokane he developed a passion for sales and excelled as a top manager in office products and supplies.  He formed his own company, JANCO Products, in 1981 and continued to work there his entire life.

In 2001, he was elected to the State Legislature as a representative from the 6th District.  He served for five terms and retired in 2013.

He was very active in the business and service community of Spokane.  He was a leader in several service clubs and organizations to include:  Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, and many others.

Outgoing and very positive, he loved to talk and be with people and especially enjoyed serving the people of Spokane.

He will always be remembered as a devoted family man and a dedicated public servant.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, sons Michael and Brian, a daughter Carolyn, a brother Mike, sister Connie, and four grandkids. John was laid to rest at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in a private service.
