Delauder
June 6, 1944 – January 5, 2025
John Emerson DeLauder, 80, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2025, surrounded by his family in Spokane, Washington.
John was born on June 6, 1944, in Miami, Florida. In 1947, his family relocated to Spokane, Washington, where he attended St. Anthony's and St. Aloysius elementary schools, Gonzaga Prep, and ultimately graduated from North Central High School in 1962.
John's lifelong passion for cooking led him to complete the Culinary Arts program at Spokane Community College. He worked as a chef at notable establishments, including the Marriott in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Ridpath and Davenport Hotels in Spokane.
In 1968, John transitioned to a career at Coca-Cola as a driver and salesman. By 1976, he began his work as a dedicated business agent for the Teamsters, serving with Local 582 and later Local 690 until his retirement in 1999.
John was a man of many passions. He delighted in preparing feasts for family and friends, sharing his culinary talent with those he loved. A devoted car enthusiast, he restored several vintage cars throughout his lifetime. He found peace fishing and relished time spent at his
cherished "little cabin in the sky," where he never missed a sunset. A music aficionado, John's recording room was his haven, filled with the melodies of the classics that brought him immense joy.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patty; daughters Lisa DeLauder (Troy) and Meagan DeLauder Clarke (Kris); granddaughter Danielle Moore (Brandon); and his great-grandson and buddy, Maddox. He is also survived by his sister, Lucille Gatza; brother Dan DeLauder (Cynde
and Elizabeth); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson Dee, and Mary DeLauder, as well as his brothers Lane and Tim, and sister Cheri.
A mass to honor John's life will be held on January 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane or a charity of your choice.
John will be remembered as a kind, generous, and curious soul who brought warmth to every encounter. His devotion to his family, love of learning, and ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures made him a beloved presence to all who knew him. John's faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength, guidance, and an enduring sense of hope.
