John
Lukich
May 2, 1923 – May 10, 2025
John crossed the last item off his bucket list on Saturday, May 10. He was born in Bearcreek, Montana on May 2, 1923, to John Lukich and Antoinette Martincic. He started first grade at the age of five thanks to older sister, Christy, who taught him to read and write at age 3. He graduated from Bearcreek High School in May 1940. John was in the CCC's stationed at Glacier National Park.
He joined the Army in April 1943. The Army sent him to Stanford and the University of California Berkeley as part of their Army specialist training program for engineering. After a few months he felt he wasn't doing his part for the war effort and left the program. His service took him to Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and central Europe. He was discharged in January of 1946 and returned to Bearcreek.
John and Margaret Pylman were married on March 13, 1946 in Red Lodge, Montana. They moved to Spokane. John worked for Jensen-Byrd and Kaman Bearing as a purchasing agent. John was a people person, who always had a smile. His sense of humor, resilience, and gentle wisdom will stay with all of us forever. The family would like to thank Eden Home Health and Hospice for the care they gave these last couple of months.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, all five of his siblings, and two nephews. He is survived by his son, Tom (Sharon), daughter, Randi, and son, Cliff (Lyn). He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 am, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lawn F, 7200 N. Wall, Spokane, WA. Online memorial page can be found at www.holycrossofspokane.org
