Joseph
Kaley
September 22, 1935 – January 24, 2023
Joseph A. Kaley, (87) of Spokane, Washington passed away on January 24 , 2023, in the presence of family.
Joe, as he was known, was born on September 22, 1935, in Princeton MN and raised in Chokio MN by Henry and Virgil Kaley along with his brother Lee Kaley. The family moved to Spokane where Joe graduated from Gonzaga High School then went on to attend the Spokane Police Academy. He met Janice Wright, the girl of his dreams, and they married in 1958 and raised five children.
Joe served as a Spokane Police detective for 25 years and served in the Coast Guard Reserve for 25 years before retiring from both in 1986. Not quite ready for full retirement, he worked as a bus driver for the Riverside School District for a few years until Jan's retirement.
Joe loved to hunt, fish, camp, garden, play guitar, play cards, travel – Hawaii was a favorite destination, and he especially enjoyed his family. He attended many basketball, football, and baseball games, cross country races and many musical programs to support his kids. To those who knew him, he had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his kindness and generosity.
Joe was not only blessed with his Kaley family, but to his great delight, in 1975, his biological family found him after years of separation. In 1976 he was reunited with his brother Bud Seifert, his three sisters, Beverly Myers, Lois Oftedahl and Mary Siebel, and their families.
A man of faith, Joe was a part of many parish communities in Spokane, Deer Park, and Colbert. He was passionate about giving back. In addition to serving as a Boy Scout leader for many years, he also volunteered at Sacred Heart Medical Center where he served as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick, ran errands and escorted patients throughout the hospital, and served at the information desk.
He always trusted in God's goodness and providence and now goes to his eternal home.
Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice and his five children, Mike (Paula), Brenda (Greg), Steve, Bill (Lisa) and Dave (KC), and his grandchildren Rheanna, Jacob, Colter, Calissa, and Nick.
