Judith Ann
Barrington
November 30, 1939 – July 11, 2023
Judy Barrington passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 11. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Barrington (7/19/2004) and son Richard Barrington (12/6/2012). Judy was born November 30, 1939 in Spokane and moved to Everett, Washington when she was 4 years old. Her family came back to Spokane when she was in high school where she graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1957.
Judy married John Barrington May 27th, 1961 and they began their life together raising three boys – John, Richard (Dick) and Jeff. She often described that experience as raising 'three little monkeys!"
Mom has a large extended family and she had established many life-long relationships through work, church groups and places she has lived. Family and friends describe Judy as the kindest and sweetest lady they know. There's no arguing with that. She was proud to be a mother, grandmother, great grandmother (granny) and friend to everyone she met. To her kids, she was Mom. To other family members she was Aunt Judy and to everyone else, she will always be known as Grandma Judy.
Judy had a few jobs over the years besides raising her three boys with John Sr. She worked in the Banking business and sold Avon for a short time. She was most proud of the more than 30 years (1978 – 2009) she served as a secretary at Stevens Elementary School where she made a positive impact on the staff and students. Judy did not slow down after retiring from Stevens. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's athletic and music events. She was even a little tech savvy, posting events on Facebook and texting with friends and family. Her social calendar was always full – lunches with her lady friends, church guild groups, movies, shopping, dinners, bible study and spending summer weeks and weekends at the lake.
Her declining health in the last few years limited those activities and that frustrated her. But she continued to keep tabs on everyone. She knew everyone's birthdays and anniversaries and would often share handwritten cards and notes with those she loved.
Judy is survived by her son, John Barrington Jr., his wife Tammy Barrington, Haley Barrington (granddaughter), Owen Barrington (great grandson), Emma (Warren) Weil (granddaughter), son Jeff Barrington, Beau Barrington (grandson) and Jace Barrington (grandson).
Judy Barrington lived a full life. She was a genuinely kind and caring person. One we can all learn from.
We'd like to thank the many doctors and nurses at both Sacred Heart and Holy Family Hospitals, the support staff at Royal Park and most recently, Hospice of Spokane who all helped mom these last few months. They treated her with respect and compassion and often put us all at ease when she was not doing well. In memory of Judy, please consider making a donation to Hospice of Spokane – www.hospiceofspokane.org
