Judith (Judy)
Zappone
October 15, 1939 – January 22, 2024
Judith (Judy) Arlene Sauer was born October 15th 1939 at home in Lamont, WA to Julius and Bertha Sauer, the second of six children. She went to the Lord on January 22nd 2024 in Spokane with her six children and family by her side.
Judy graduated from Lamont High School in 1957. In 1958, Judy was selected as queen of the United Service Organization (USO). She earned a degree from Kinman Business College. While on a bowling league, she met Bill Zappone, a school teacher. They married on December 9, 1961 and began a family in Medical Lake, WA. In April of 1972, Bill went to heaven leaving Judy to raise six children ranging from 3 to 9 years old. She was a devoted mom and created a loving and safe home.
She was blessed with many talents to include: gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, creating doll furniture from tin cans, designing clothes and making Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She was a skilled seamstress sewing countless dresses for her daughters and the wedding gown of her first daughter-in-law. She also embroidered many of St Anne Parish's precious tapestries that are still used today. Judy traveled abroad with a close friend to Argentina, Chile, Philippines and China. She also traveled with her children to California, Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC and Alaska.
As her children proceeded through middle and high school, she began to work at the Medical Lake School District as a secretary at the elementary and middle schools. After 28 years, Judy retired as the Executive Secretary for the Superintendent in December 2005.
She loved bowling and her passion was shared by her children and grandchildren. Judy continued bowling in leagues at Cheney Bowl and North Bowl until her 80th birthday. She was a master at assembling puzzles and welcomed assistance from anyone around her kitchen table. Judy was an avid sports fan of the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Seattle Mariners and enjoyed watching professional tennis and
bowling.
Judy is survived by her six children: Bill (JoDee), Scot, Jack (Kim), Mike (Stephanie), Sheri (Stephen), Judi and 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and her siblings, Linda, Ron, Dennis and Tim. She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Bertha Sauer, her husband Bill Zappone and brother Alvin Sauer.
