Karen Byersdorf (DeVries) passed away on July 23, 2021in her hometown of Spokane, WA at the age of 64.
Karen was born to William and Patricia DeVries on March 5 th , 1957. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and graduated from one of the last all female classes at Holy Names Academy. Her eye for detail and creative talent earned her a degree in Interior Design from Spokane Falls Community College. Karen had a career in sales and marketing, most recently working in the food service industry. She was naturally successful due to her wonderful personality, coupled with her genuine warmth and concern for everyone.
Karen's yearlong battle with cancer showed her true courage as she fought back with dignity, charm and always a positive outlook. Karen lived in the Seattle area for many years, coming back home to Spokane a year ago. Her family is blessed and forever grateful to have had her nearby for the last year sharing her time and love with each of us. All, especially her mother, will miss her greatly.
Her father, William DeVries, her first husband, Andy Rynning, and brother-in-law Patrick Christensen, precede Karen in death.
Karen is survived by her mother and best friend, Patricia DeVries, two children: Drewe and Christopher Rynning. Her brothers: Mike (Becky), Patrick (Susan) and sisters: Kathy DeVries, Kris DeVries, Kim Walter (Dennis) and Karyl Christensen. Nieces: Kristin Prey, Lauren Kahns, Halley Walter, Kelsey Butler, Sidney Christensen, Alex Hyndman, and Melanie DeVries. Nephew: Josh Hundeby.
Karen's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the medical community that took such great care of her including the 7 South Care Providers, Nurses and Palliative Care team at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, Cancer Care Northwest, Kaiser Hospitalists and Hospice House.
