Katherine Christine
Kelly
February 7, 1942 – October 20, 2023
Katherine Christine Kelly passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 20th.
Kathy was born in Billings, Montana where she spent most of her youth growing up in the rural outskirts of the city. Her family relocated to the Hillyard neighborhood where she graduated from Rogers High School.
It wasn't long before she met the love of her life at a dance on the Gonzaga University campus. She married Larry Kelly October 21st, 1960. From there, she moved to many places, including Minnesota, Oregon, California, Wyoming, and finally came back to Spokane.
Kathy raised her family, while also contributing to the businesses she and her husband started together. Their proudest business accomplishment was Kelly's Premium Movie Style Popcorn (look for it on shelves at your local grocery store).
As a devout Catholic, she spent part of her life helping establish and build a Catholic church in Afton, Wyoming. She used her creative and artistic talents to restore and paint many religious statues in Wyoming and here in Spokane. Additionally, for many years, you could find her singing and playing percussion at St. Peter's Saturday evening mass.
Above all, Kathy cared for her loved ones and had a zest for life. She wore bright colors, played the bongos, asked interesting questions, and listened when you answered. She never mis-spelled a word, knew all the answers on Jeopardy, and passed on many life hacks and wisdoms to her children and grandchildren.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Margaret Zent, her husband Larry Kelly, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Kelly. She is survived by her brothers: Michael Zent (Pam), Rick Zent (Chunga), her children: Colleen, Greg, Larry, Shannon, and Tara (Dan). She was a proud grandmother to Henry, Katherine (Tony), Michael, Kayletta, Emmaletta, Toshi, Steven, Tiffany, Travis, Anngelica (Travis), Devano, and Gino, as well as many great-grandchildren.
