Obituary

Spokane – Kathleen (Kay) Madsen, of Spokane passed away peacefully at her home in her sleep on April 3, 2025. Kathleen was born to Mary Helen MacDonald on December 26, 1924 in Iola, Kansas and raised by Maro and Kitty Brownfield (MacDonald).

Kay resided in Spokane since 1972 with her husband, Jack who she married January 19, 1952 and their three sons. She received her Masters in Education from Gonzaga University, and placed high value in education, theology and politics. Kay embraced her faith and the Catholic Church. She was involved with both the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center and The Morning Star Boys' Ranch. Kay liked to write little notes to different people in her life, had a love for dogs and a sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Madsen, sons John Madsen and Vincent Madsen and her brothers and sister Father Frowin (Virgil) Brownfield, Rod Brownfield and Moira Gise. Kay is survived by her son, Joseph Madsen, her brother Patrick Angus Brownfield and granddaughters, Katrina, Jacquline, Sara and Maura. Kay also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm on April 22, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church located at 219 E. Rockwood Blvd. Spokane. Her funeral Mass will also be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on April 23, 2025 at 11:00 am.
