Obituary

Kiyoko "Kay" Montgomery, 93, of Cheney, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025. Born on July 18, 1932, in Zenranando, Korea, Kay's life journey spanned continents and decades of change, marked by courage, devotion, and creativity.

Raised in Korea and later Japan after World War II, Kay met her husband, William Patterson "Bill" Montgomery, while working in the jewelry department at the U.S. Air Force base exchange. They were married in 1956 at the U.S. Embassy in Japan and later solemnized their union at a Catholic church. After the birth of their first daughter, the young family moved to the United States, where Kay became a proud American citizen in 1965.

Settling in Cheney, Kay worked in several Spokane restaurants before devoting her time to family and craft. She had refined sewing skills, created detailed Japanese display dolls and was famous for her exceptional kimchee. Warm yet firm, Kay had high expectations for her daughters and loved them deeply.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, in 2020. She leaves behind her daughters, Sherrie Montgomery and Rochelle Schultz, who will always remember her loyalty, strength, and love. Her presence will be deeply missed.
