Obituary

Larry Comstock, 72, of Colbert, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2023.

Larry was born on May 27, 1951 to Dorothy and Lawrence (Sonny) Comstock in Bellingham, Washington. His brother, Tom, was born a few years later. They moved to Concrete, Washington, in his early elementary years. He developed a robust work ethic and had jobs in the agriculture and timber industry from an early age. He graduated from Concrete High School and went on to earn his AA and Commercial Pilots License at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington.  He eventually earned his Bachelor's degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he graduated with honors.

Larry married Geri Donovan and began his career in the United States Marine Corps in 1971. They had two daughters, Coleen and Rachel, who were born on military bases in Quantico, Virginia, and Cherry Point, North Carolina. During Larry's 22 years in the Marine Corps, he primarily flew the A-6 Intruder and developed a tight network of friendships that remained steadfast throughout his life. He retired at the rank of Lt. Col. and received the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Navy Commendation Medal, among others.

Larry went on to have a second career as a FedEx Pilot, where he flew the Airbus and MD-11 aircraft around the world.

Larry and Geri retired in Spokane, Washington, where they enjoyed spending time with their network of Northwest family members. Gardening, hunting and traveling locally and abroad filled his days, along with volunteer work through their church and local charities.

Anyone acquainted with Larry knew that he was a loving and devoted father and spouse. Larry treasured his six grandchildren; Alec, Daniel, Jonathan, Annalise, Camden and Benjamin. He loyally attended their sporting events, school activities and took them on hunting trips and vacations. He was truly a role model for each of them and his influence in their lives is measureless.

We mourn the loss of Larry but find comfort in knowing he is in the blessed presence of his Savior. Larry is survived by his wife, Geri Comstock; his daughters, Coleen (Steve) Drinkard and Rachel (George) Poulson; grandchildren Alec, Daniel, Jonathan, Annalise, Camden and Benjamin; brother, Tom (Linda) Comstock; sister, Vicki Norris; and loyal springer spaniel, Molly.

Larry's wife and children would like to express gratitude to family and friends for the outpouring of love and support.
