Lorraine
Anderson
December 22, 1938 – December 20, 2022
Lorraine Marie (Hansen) Anderson, longtime resident of Spokane, died Dec. 20, 2022, aged 83 after a long illness. Diagnosed with breast cancer over 20 years ago, her story of intention, resilience and faith is inspirational to all who knew her.
Born in Spokane Dec. 22, 1938 to Mary and Donald Hansen, she attended Holy Names Academy in Spokane, graduating in 1956. She worked as a telephone operator for the phone company, when she met and later married the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Anderson June 19, 1958, then stationed at Deep Creek Air Force Station (later Fairchild AFB). Their military travels took them to England, South Dakota, Hawaii, Montana, Quebec, Canada, New York, and back to Spokane.
Her life of service, to her community, church and family defined her as a servant-leader. She held various roles over the years on church boards and charitable causes at Assumption Parish, with the Altar Society at St. Anthony's Parish, and as a Eucharistic Minister there, and supporting food distribution at the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. As mother and homemaker, she was ever-present in the raising of her four sons, supporting their school activities, as den mother in scouts, and as soccer mom. And as nurturer-grandmother, she helped raise two of her granddaughters through their early years. She was an amazing woman: having a joie de vivre to celebrate life always, and holding compassion for all she met.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Jerry of 46 years, who died in Spokane in 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Nicholas) and Donald Murray Hansen, Sr., her siblings Joanne Plumb, Donald Murray Hansen, Jr., and Robert Hansen. She is survived by her sons Chad (Cindy) Anderson of Spokane, Kevin (Karen) Anderson of Spokane, Donald Anderson (Donald Botts) of Seattle, and Sean Anderson of Spokane, as well as six grandchildren: Kimberly Anderson, Scott (Tabitha) Anderson, Ashley Anderson (Wes O'Dell), Jonathan "Jack" Anderson (Hannah Coleman), Claire Long (Trevor Long), and Katrina Richter (David Richter). She was also blessed with and is survived by five great-granddaughters: Callie, Rebecca, Ninkasi, Hannah and Emily, all of whom will miss their "GG" very much. Lorraine's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, and in so many of those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please give generously to support breast cancer research, care and prevention.
