Margaret "Marge" (Dayak) Holston, age 86 of Spokane Valley, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home. She was born August 7, 1935 in Canonsburg, PA the tenth of eleven children, to Charles and Anna Dayak. She graduated from Canon-McMillan High School in 1953 and went to work for Bell Telephone of PA in Canonsburg. In January 1955 she transferred to the Pacific Bell office in Long Beach, CA. She then met and married the love of her life, H.A. "Al" Holston on November 10, 1956. They raised three children together, Cindy, Sandy and Bill in Orange County, CA. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1981 and soon afterwards Marge re-entered the workforce at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel as a switchboard operator. After her husband's death on December 21, 1982, she went to work for State Farm Insurance for the next 16 years, retiring in 1998.
Marge enjoyed roller skating as a teenager and later in life as well, earning a dance bar while expecting her third child. She was a life-long Byzantine Catholic. The Holston family became founding members of Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church in Anaheim, CA in 1969. Marge enjoyed baking for fundraisers with the kitchen crew at Annunciation for 35 years. She also frequently brought baked goods for the coffee socials at St Cyril & Methodius after moving to WA in 2009, when she joined Saints Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church in Spokane Valley.
Marge is survived by two sisters, Helen Bruce, and Ann (John) Dugan, and a brother, Frank (Jean) Dayak; three children, Cindy (Robert) Stock, Sandy Anchondo and Bill Holston; six grandchildren, Neil Campbell, Lt. Allen Latimer, Jennifer Latimer, Dylan (Jennifer) Stock, Amanda (Holston) Burt, Elise (Stock) Hankins; ten great- grandchildren, Ashley Campbell, Juli and Caleb Stock, Giana Boice, Aubree Sanchez, Kayla Latimer, Connor and Lincoln Burt, Madilyn and Killian Hankins; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Dayak; her husband, Al Holston; brothers Charles Dayak Jr, Michael Dayak, Peter Dayak, George Dayak, John Dayak; and sisters Mary (Dayak) Mandus and Elizabeth (Dayak) Distefano.
Parastas will be held January 4, 2022 at 7pm. Funeral Divine Liturgy follows on January 5, 2022 at 10am. Both services will be held at Saints Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church, 4315 N. Evergreen Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99215.
