Marian "Dude"
Cyrena Thompson

Marian Cyrena "Dude" Thompson passed away on March 15, 2024 at the age of 97.
She was born in 1926 in Idaho Falls Idaho to George and Marion Edgington.
During World War II Dude was a coed at the University of Idaho and was a sister at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. It was while she was a Kappa, Dude "pen paled" with US Marine and Spokane native, Donn Thompson. In December 1945, Dude and Donn finally met in person at Felts Airport. They instantly fell in love. Dude called Donn her "Love Bug".
They married in April 1947. Donn and Dude Thompson raised four children. Sons: Donn, George, and James, and a daughter, Marianne. Marianne preceded her in death.
In 1992 Donn and Dude retired to Donn's hometown of Spokane. It was here in Spokane, that they built their "dream home", and focused on community service, marvelous neighbors, new friends, family, and golf.
Dude volunteered at Sacred Heart and Deaconess Hospitals and was awarded "volunteer of the year" for her work there. Dude co-founded The Teal Ladies service group at The Southside Senior Center. Dude was also active with Kappa alumni.
In 2021, Dude and Donn sold their home and moved to Rockwood Retirement Center where they made many new friends. Dude passed away next to her "Love Bug".
Dude is survived by Donn, her husband of 78 years, her sons Donn, George (Rebecca), and Jim (Katrina), grandchildren Elizabeth (Brian), Samantha (Carter), Hilary (John), Trevor (Arlette) Kevin (Sara), Cody(Kristine) and Great-grandchildren Connor and Caden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Catholic Charities in Spokane, The Southside Senior Center, Macular Degradation Research Foundation, or The Rockwood Foundation.
