Marianne Hernandez passed away on December 3, 2021 at the age of 94. She was born on January 10, 1927 in Holzen, Germany. She later moved with her family to Wiesbaden, Germany. She met her husband to be, Candelario (Cande) Hernandez when he was stationed with the Air Force in Wiesbaden. They were married on May 14, 1952 in Bremerhaven, Germany. Cande, Marianne and her daughter Emily began their lives as an Air Force Family. While stationed at McCord AFB, Tacoma Washington, their daughter, Elizabeth Dolores was born on September 15, 1953. From there the family traveled and lived in Bitburg, Germany-Seville, Spain- Perrin AFB, Sherman, Texas and finally Rhein Main AFB, Germany. The family stayed there for ten years, returning back to the United States in 1971, calling Spokane WA home. Marianne began working as a chef at Manito Golf and Country Club located on the South Hill in Spokane, WA. On December 7, 1977 Marianne and a close family friend, Juan Cantu, went on to open their own restaurant "The Little German Inn" located in the Spokane Valley. The restaurant closed on April 30, 2000.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Candelario Hernandez, her daughter, Emily Weis, and her grandson, Torrey Lowery. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth (Dolores) and Leroy Witham, granddaughter and spouse Sonja and Christine Ritter, great grandchildren Celina and Nick, great-great grandchildren Rayna and Regan along with additional family in Germany and numerous friends. A special thank you to the Lapinski family for their kindness and friendship throughout the
years. Marianne (Omi) was an incredibly hard-working, independent, strong-willed woman who's family always came first. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. We would also like to thank Vicki and Danielle with Hospice of Spokane and the Staff at Hospice House South Hill.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Funeral and Cemetery Chapel, 7200 N. Wall St ., Spokane WA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
