Obituary

Marilyn Emma (Madden) Sjolund, 82, peacefully passed away August 24, 2024 with family by her side.

Marilyn was born in Spokane, Washington, and was raised in the Coulee City and Seattle areas. She attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing and later, St. Martin's College each for degrees in Nursing. Throughout her career, Marilyn shared her care for others through her work in oncology, home health, and hospice nursing. Ms. Madden married Kenneth Sjolund June 8, 1963. They began raising their family in Washington, and in 1978 relocated the family to Vermont. In 1987 they returned to Washington where Marilyn continued her work in nursing in the greater Olympia and Grays Harbor areas.

She is survived by her children, Carol L. Houle (Denis), Michael "Doug" Sjolund (Lynn), Mark R. Sjolund (Robin), Kirsten M. Cole (Brian), Steven J. Sjolund (Laurie), John K. Sjolund (Mindy), Daniel A. Sjolund, Timothy E. Sjolund, and Matthew B. Sjolund (Kelly), brothers Michael (Judy) Madden and Clayton Bearleggins, and her numerous beloved grandchildren and great­ grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth E. Sjolund, her parents Michael and Marcella Madden, and her brother Matthew Madden.

A rosary service on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:00 p.m., and a funeral mass the following day, Wednesday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. will both be held at St Joseph's Chapel & Cemetery, Spokane Valley, Washington. Burial will immediately follow mass.

A reception will be held for all who wish to attend at The Mirabeau Park Hotel & Convention Center, 1100 North Sullivan Rd. in Spokane Valley following the burial service.
