Obituary

Martin Joseph Dineen, age 86, was reunited with the love of his life on September 6, 2021. His beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth Theresa (Getsfred) Dineen, died in 2018.

Martin lived a long, happy life and died peacefully in his sleep at the Hospice House of Spokane after a short battle with lung cancer. He is survived by six children, Martin Dineen of Atlanta, GA, Laura Bowman (Mick) of Spokane, WA, John Dineen (Karen), of Searcy, AR, Tom Dineen (Jamie) of Warrenton, VA, Patricia Dunn (Dean) of Spokane, WA, and Karen Dineen of Spokane, WA. He was a grandpa to 20 grandchildren and a great-grandpa to 20 with 2 greats on the way.

Martin was born on December 21, 1934 to parents Martin and Mary Madeline Dineen.  He was the oldest of eight children, survived by Michael Dineen (Kathy) of Omaha, John Dineen of Omaha, Kathleen Krick (Pat) of Forth Worth TX, Therese O Toole (Morris) of Kansas City MO and preceded by Mary Madeline Sortino (Louis), William Dineen (Norma), and James Dineen (Connie).

After serving in the Army (1955-1957), Martin landed a job for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he remained a devoted employee for more than 30 years. He was a volunteer firefighter and kept a scanner by his chair to listen to responder feeds. Martin was an avid golfer and had many special times on the course with his wife, family and friends. Besides being a passionate golfer, above all else, he was a friend and strong patriarch of his family. During his short illness, Martin's kids received countless phone calls and texts messages expressing how his knowledge and guidance enriched those around him.

He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath. He was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Parish, and enjoyed attending mass daily.

Martin was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!

The family would like to express thanks to The Hospice House of Spokane. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Thomas More Parish or Hospice of Spokane.
