Marvin
Murphy
May 18, 1940 – January 8, 2024
Jesus called Marvin home on January 8, 2024, to help plow his heavenly roads. Marvin was born in Spokane, WA to Michael and Marie Murphy on May 18, 1940. In 1959, he joined his father to work for the City of Spokane's Sewer Department, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1994.
Marvin married Linda Kennedy in 1976. Together they raised her three children. Marvin and Linda enjoyed riding their Honda Gold Wings with their friends. Sadly, Linda passed away in 1994.
In retirement, Marvin joined the Hits & Misses Square Dance Club where he met Juanita Calvin. They joined his sister Virginia and her husband LeRoy traveling with their dance clubs, camping, and playing card games. When he was not traveling, Marvin could be found tinkering in his garage with his friends Carl and Joe. He also met his friends from the sewer department for monthly lunches thanks to Greg's reminders. Anyway...
Marvin could appear gruff but had a heart of gold. He was always helping someone. During the winter months you could find him plowing his neighbors, friends, and family out. He prided himself on keeping the neighborhood street and alley clean. Marvin wore his hard hat wherever he went. Anyway...
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda, sister Donna, and brother-in-law LeRoy. He is survived by his companion Juanita, son Darren, sisters Virginia (Bob) and Jeanette Steve), stepdaughter Shelly (Mike), grandchildren Drew and Gavin, several nephews and nieces, and his beloved cat Tiger. He is also survived by his special neighbors Carl, Joe, Robert, Terri, and Devon who checked in on Marvin over the years,
A graveside service for the family will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff at Hospice of Spokane. To honor Marvin, please consider donating to the Cancer Society.
