Obituary

Mary Ann Budig was born in Spokane, WA on May 27, 1930.  She was born to Michael and Kate Sherlock.  Mary passed peacefully at Spokane Hospice House South with family at her side on November 1, 2022 which is All Saints Day, fitting for her beautiful soul.

Mary attended Holy Names Academy and graduated from Lewis and Clark in 1947.  At Lewis and Clark, she played on the golf team.  She also enjoyed water and snow skiing. Mary attended Seattle University, returned home to Spokane to enroll at business school and began working in the insurance industry.

She married Peter Budig in 1958 and together they raised three children.  Mary and Peter built their home in 1959 where she continued to live for the next 63 years.  She was an active member of Assumption Parish. As an affiliate of the Spokane Election Board, she gave a demonstration on the new voting machine operation in 1970 and was featured in the paper.  She loved to play cards, especially bridge and was a member of many card clubs throughout her life.  She also enjoyed Pinochle which she spent countless hours playing with Peter and her grandson, Michael competing for the win.  Mary was a loyal, true comrade to her lifelong friends.  All of Mary's bridesmaids attended her son's  wedding in 1986; a true testament of her friendships.

Mary, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother was always there for her loved ones.  Her faith was paramount in her life and got her through many times, both joyful and sorrowful.  As her children grew, Mary returned to the workforce.  She worked as the stationary coordinator at the Crescent and later at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, specializing in the archives.  Mary took pride in her endeavors and received many accolades for the work achievements she did.  Along with her husband Peter, she became a passionate fan of Gonzaga basketball, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners and most of all, Notre Dame football.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 ½ years, Peter, daughter Katherine Dacar and brother Dominic (Dee) Sherlock and baby Tom.  She is survived by son Kevin Budig (Beth) and daughter Karen Budig, all of Spokane, grandsons Joseph Patrick Budig of California, Marcus Budig of Florida, Michael Budig (Laura) of Spokane, and granddaughter Lauren Budig of Pullman as well as many nieces and nephews.  The family extends gratitude to caregiver Ramana Ramos, Theresa Sullivan and the Hospice House of Spokane-South.
