Obituary

Born January 31, 1929 in Ronan, Montana. Died January 8, 2022 in Sun City, AZ

Maxine worked as a police woman and legal secretary before becoming the administrative secretary at Sacred Heart Hospital in 1962, while raising six children. A typical day was described as "beginning early and concluding quite late". November, 1964, she had another child and was back working within 2 months. She later became a single parent raising 7 children. She returned to college at age 50 to earn her bachelor's degree from EWU. In 1980, she was promoted to administrative assistant and coordinator of the Quality Assurance Program while maintaining her previous office management responsibilities. In 1982, Maxine received certification in medical staff coordination, the first person in the state of Washington receiving this certification.

In 1984, Maxine (Max to friends and family) with Florence Hansen traveled to Zambia to help build a hospital as part of the Jesuit missions. After 29 years at Sacred Heart, she retired. In 1992 she again traveled to Zambia to provide assistance with public health initiatives. She was a snowbird moving between Spokane and Sun City, AZ. She was an avid weaver and crafter. She assumed leadership roles in all of her various activities. Her low vision limited her activities in later years. She died peacefully at her home in Sun City.

She is survived by her sister Betty McRae, Spokane, WA and brother Don Kenna, Sun City, AZ. Surviving children are Mary Ann Keogh Hoss, Margaret Jean Cooper, Colleen Marie Keogh and Maureen Rose Keogh. She has seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. There are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
