Obituary

Marylin A. Bauer passed away at the age of 94 on September 5, 2025. Marilyn was born in Colfax, Washington to Arthur and Florida James, the first of 4 children. She spent her early years riding horses, milking cows, playing in the fields, helping with the harvest, and, everyone's favorite on the family farm, playing down by "the creek". She graduated from Colfax High School and, until recently, attended many of her class reunions. She met, Meryl, the love of her life, while she was attending WSC (WSU). Meryl and Marylin were married on June 24, 1950. After marriage Marylin worked in the print shop and as a secretary to support Meryl completing his degree. The young couple lived in Spokane, Wapato, Cheney, and Wilbur, and then, back to Spokane, where they settled. By this time two boys were born and Marylin assumed the role of homemaker. She would eventually have a total of five boys, and each of them remember her as the best, loving angel of a mother, that ever was.  She lived her life with an even temperament, common sense, and generous love that resonated to all that were fortunate enough to know her. She was the rock of her family. And she welcomed others who became "family" in her eyes. Marylin cherished her ties to the family farm and her family that still lives there. She visited often and cooked for the harvesters. Most of the stories she told were affectionate memories from her life on the farm. The family farm was always held close to her heart. Likewise, Marylin loved her invovement with the "Bauer" side of the family. She loved the times she spent with Meryl's siblings and families, and especially the reunions at Connie Jean's pool. Marylin was very talented in many endeavors. She was a gymnast at WSC and could do hand springs and back flips and walk on her hands. She kept a spotless house, and spent countless hours gardening. Her flowers was were the most beautiful backdrop for the family pool. She painted and sculpted and many of her paintings and sculptures adorn the homes of her family and friends. She "antiqued" the kitchen cabinets and furniture in her family home. She was an avid reader. Each week you would see a stack of novels she had just checked out and another stack to be returned to the library. And, she was a fabulous Ping Pong player. All her sons were humbled by her prowess on the court at one time or another. But, first and foremost was her family. She deftly accomplished the impossible task of raising five boys. She was constantly asked how she did it. And after the boys had left home, she took care of her grandchildren the same way, walking them to school, working with them on their homework, teaching them to read, swim, and bake, etc, and to be good people. Marylin left a legacy of love and will be very missed. The family is grateful for the excellent love and care Mom received in her final days at Dove Trail Adult Home. Marylin is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister. She is survived by her five sons, Patrick (Debbie), Michael (Annella), Scott, Todd, Timothy (Sherri), five grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marylin's memory to Catholic Charities. A Celebration of Marylin's life will be held on Monday, 9/22/2025 at 11:00 at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel, 7200 N Wall Street, Spokane WA 99208.
