Michael C
Weir
February 20, 1939 – February 9, 2023
Michael (Mike) Weir was born February 20, 1939 to Ralph and Mary Weir in Spokane, WA and passed away on February 9, 2023 at the age of 83 from complications of surgery/septic shock. He was raised in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1957. After high school he served in the Army playing football and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home to Spokane, he was a heavy machine operator on construction projects. He later went to college on the GI Bill and got his teaching degree from Eastern Washington University and his master's degree from Whitworth University. He had a long career teaching German and English at North Central High School as well as coaching many kids in football, wrestling and softball. He had a positive influence on so many high schoolers who would stop him as adults and share the impact he made on them. He spent his summers off from teaching by working at Murphy Brother's and Inland Asphalt and was excellent and skilled at operating heavy machinery for road construction projects. In addition to these jobs, he was also an administrator for night school for continuing education for adults. He retired from teaching in 1997.
He married Sharon (Holt) in 1965 and they celebrated 57 years of marriage before her death last March. They had two daughters, Teri and Molly. Mike was a hardworking family man who enjoyed many hobbies and pursuits. He loved restoring classic cars into beautiful showpieces. Through the years he enjoyed snow skiing, hunting, racquetball, golf, working out, watching all the sports, and keeping his yard and cars immaculate. After retirement, he became a master woodworker and built many beautiful things that we will always treasure. It felt like there wasn't anything he couldn't do or fix or build.
It was so fun to see Mike as a Papa and he had a very special relationship with each of his grandchildren. He could be seen at many a dance recital, baseball game, cheer competition, school program, Hoopfest, football game and all the other things his grandkids were involved in. So many of his grandkid's friends also called him Papa and he was the fun grandpa who would bring treats and support all the kids.
Mike truly had a heart of service and would do anything for his family and friends. He was constantly helping others with home, yard and car repairs, driving friends to the airport, shoveling driveways for neighbors and just being available for anyone who needed help. He was the hardest working man we knew. He was gracious and appreciative and the kind of man that had so many friends that you couldn't go anywhere without him running into people he knew. He loved the Lord and was a lifelong Christian who attended mass regularly and was always interested in others and how he could pray for them.
Mike is survived by his two daughters and their families who absolutely adored him: Teri (Fulton) and husband Bob and their kids Courtney and Blake; and Molly (Bergan) and her husband Jason and their kids Abby, Luke and Lexi. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Ann Scott, Judy Lennemann and Ralph Weir. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years: Sharon Weir. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Joy Ruple and Larry Weir.
