Molly Jean
Shine
August 1, 1942 – October 4, 2025
Molly Jean Shine R.N. of Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully at home, after a brief Illness. Her husband and their four daughters were by her side. Molly was born in Seattle, to Edna (McRae) Means and William A. Means and lived a part of her youth in the Bow-Edison area in western Washington.
Molly graduated from Shoreline High School In 1960. She then attended the University of Washington for 3 years before enrolling in Sacred Heart School of Nursing. After graduating in 1966 and passing her State Board exams, she returned to Seattle and worked at Harborview Hospital. In late December1967
Molly married Thomas Shine who was employed by a Seattle Architectural firm.
Molly was expecting their 2nd child in 1969 when they moved to Spokane where they continued to live and raise their family. She worked nights part time at Deaconess hospital, then as a private surgical nurse two days a week for a Neurosurgeon. In the early 80's she went to work for SHMC in the Surgery Area and spent most days as Charge Nurse in addition to assisting in surgery rooms.
Molly was active in the community including being a member of Spokane Junior League and a member of Healing the Children. She made 7 volunteer medical mission trips to Guatemala with surgical teams to correct birth defects for native children and to perform Cataract surgery for adults in the highland communities.
Molly is survived by Tom, her husband of almost 58 years, her sister Gwendolyn Rench and husband Bob of Seattle, 4 daughters, 1O grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, plus many nieces and nephews. Molly's children are Michelle Fillichio of Ft Lauderdale, FL and her 3 sons Blaine, Dean and Beau; Marie Bonneau of Spokane and her son Zach and daughter Olivia; Gwen Morrison and husband Mark of Nashville, TN and their son McRae and daughter Macie; plus Katie Shine of Spokane, and her son Jake Curley and his wife Gabby of Lansing Ml, daughter Lily Curley of Pacific City, OR; and Emma Deason and her husband Jordon and their baby Maverick of Kauai, HI.
Services will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 428 W 19th Ave, Spokane, WA
Rosary will be Oct 23, 2025 at 5:30pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Oct 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
