Nancy L
Groshan
April 9, 1932 – November 17, 2021
Nancy LaFeber Groshan was born in 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carolee and Gene LaFeber. She died November 17, 2021, in Spokane Valley, WA at the age of 89 years. When she was young, Nancy's parents moved to Burbank, CA where they worked in the movie industry. Nancy loved her high school years, excelling in volleyball, swimming, and playing classical piano. She was quite the fan of John Wayne! She met and married Richard Shermerhorn and Stacey was born. This marriage ended in divorce and she and Stacey moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. She then met the love of her life, Elmer H. Groshan and they were married in 1966. Elmer loved to fly, and Nancy took lessons as well, earning her "right seat" pilot's license! Elmer's dream of moving to Alaska was fulfilled in 1976 and for 38 years she and Elmer lived that dream, first in Anchorage, then moving to Wasilla to build a home. Together they made a fairy tale life with many treasured friends. Their favorite activities were gardening, fishing, and traveling throughout Alaska.
Nancy regularly attended the Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church and made many friends in their quilt group. In 2014 she and Elmer moved to be near her daughter in Spokane Valley.
She is survived by her daughter Stacey (David) Sorg and two grandchildren, Kenneth, and Emily Sorg. She was preceded into death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Elmer H. Groshan.
