Nancy Kay Kruse, 82, passed away peacefully in the Lord on May 16th, 2024 at St. Joseph's Providence Care Center, surrounded by her children. In her final moments, she received the Last Rites from her son, a Catholic priest, a testament to the faith that guided her life.
Born to Albert and Hilda Mendes on June 2nd, 1941, in Arcata, California, Nancy was deeply proud of her Portuguese heritage. She excelled academically, graduating with honors from Humboldt State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She dedicated many years to teaching in San Diego, CA, inspiring countless students with her passion for learning.
It was at Humboldt State where Nancy met Mike Kruse, the love of her life. Captivated by her grace and outgoing personality, Mike and Nancy's college romance grew into a lifelong journey of love that persevered through the many joys and challenges of life.
Nancy's love for the arts was a defining aspect of her life. She was an accomplished ballet dancer and cheerleader during her college years, and her children and grandchildren inherited her deep appreciation for the arts.
Nancy's Catholic faith was her pillar of strength, providing her with comfort throughout her life. Prayer was her solace, especially in her final days.
Nancy is survived by her children, Fr. David Kruse, Lisa Jennings (Joe), and Theresa McGuirk (Brian), her seven beloved grandchildren, and her brother, Norm Mendes. She joins her devoted husband, Mike Kruse, and her parents, Albert and Hilda Mendes, in eternal rest.
Nancy's children extend their heartfelt gratitude to the administration and staff at St. Joseph's Care Center for their exceptional care and support during her eleven year residency.
Despite health challenges throughout her years, Nancy's warmth, love, strength, and vibrant personality will be remembered by all who knew her.
