Pamela Ann
Fitterer
May 1, 1944 – November 12, 2024
Pamela Ann was born May 1, 1944 in Seattle, WA to parents Gertrude and Harry Mahoney. She was the youngest of three children including brother Patrick and sister Caroline.
Her family moved many times in Washington and Oregon as they relocated to different logging camps in Mapleton, Kosmos, and Roseburg including a short stint in the Philippines. As a senior in high school, they moved back to Seattle where she attended Queen Anne High School. She then attended Seattle University and received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
She married JD Fitterer on August 12, 1967. They remained in Seattle while JD finished medical school at the University of Washington where they welcomed their first 2 of 4 children, Beth and Carrie. They moved to Denver and Colorado Springs, CO for the next 5 years to finish residency and welcomed their 3rd child, Jill. Their final relocation was made to Spokane in 1976 where they welcomed their 4th child, Mark.
In 1988, Pam received her second Bachelor of Arts degree in Art at Gonzaga University. She then became an Artist in Residence for 23 years in the ceramics department at Gonzaga. Her greatest joy came from guiding struggling students as they worked to mold clay. Pam was also the regional expert in pit fire pottery in the Native American tradition. In 2021, her dream of publishing a book and receiving her own ISBN came true with "Embracing Decay" which documented abandoned houses in the Palouse.
Pam passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and husband of 57 years. She will be remembered for her undeniable love and devotion to her family and friends. She was an incredible friend, wife, mother, and grandmother. She had such love for art, pottery, literature, photography, rocks, painting, fishing, and jeeping. She was a devout Catholic who lived her life with love, forgiveness, and unconditional compassion for others. She has left a huge impact on so many lives and will be forever missed and in our hearts.
She is survived by: JD (husband); Caroline (sister); Beth (daughter), Mark (son in law) and Hailey (granddaughter); Carrie (daughter), Robert (son in law), Diego and Tomas (grandsons); Jill (daughter), John (son in law), Tyler (grandson), Andrew (grandson) and Emma (granddaughter); Mark (son), Rana (daughter in law), Chase (grandson), Chloe (granddaughter) and Colin (grandson).
