Obituary

Richard Anthony Cardullo Young entered Heaven on December 3, 2021 at the age of 89.

Richard was born on September 1, 1932 to Fred Young and Rose Cardullo Young in Spokane, Washington.

He graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1951 and then joined the US Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict.  Upon discharge he started to work for his father in Spokane and then was married in 1955 to Shirley Jean Thornton in a double ceremony with his brother Donald and Elaine Horner.  He went to work for the Great Northern Railroad in 1955 and worked until his retirement from Burlington Northern as a machinist welder in 1994. He served on the Board of Directors for the Spokane Railway Credit Union as the chairman of the Audit Committee.

He built a cabin on Sacheen Lake that was enjoyed by his family and friends for many years. They made their home on 5 acres in Colbert Washington.   After retirement he and Shirley spent happy years between the cabin and as snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona and then moved to Kent, Washington to be near their children and grandchildren.

Richard was known for being a loving husband, father and friend.  He lived his life by example, sharing his faith, being trustworthy, respectful of others, and sharing his knowledge. He will never be gone, as he will always be close in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, and their five children, Laura Warren (Bruce), Linda Axworthy (Bruce), Judy Skaer (Michael), Richard, Jr, and Steven (Donna), twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his brother Donald and sister Margaret Woodard.

A celebration of life will be held in Kent, Washington, and Richard's final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, WA where a service will be held in the chapel in the spring.
