Rita Mae
Johnson
March 12, 1929 – February 9, 2021
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 9, 2021.
Rita was born in Kranzburg, SD on March 12, 1929. At age six, Rita moved with her family to Kellogg, ID. At an early age, she had a passion for cooking, caring for others and sports. In fact, she held track and field records at Kellogg High School for many years. She was proud to pass this passion for athletics to her children and grandchildren.
Rita married Wayne Johnson in 1948 and settled in the Spokane Valley, where they remained for their 72-year marriage. Rita and Wayne were active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church and have the distinction of being the longest tenured married members of the parish.
Rita loved being surrounded by family and each gathering was special to her. Rita will forever be remembered by family and friends for generous acts of kindness. She was always helping those in need through personal acts of kindness and charity.
Rita is survived by her husband Wayne; her daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and John Forster, Debbie and John Clift, Teresa and Rob Cutshall, Wendy and Dan Malloy and Lisa and Dave Bosch, her son and daughter-in-law John and Lisa Johnson; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother Jack Turbak; sister Carol Bottinelli, and her beloved blue heeler Betsy. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Marjorie Turbak, brother Gene Turbak and sisters Lois Bening and Janice Crall.
She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She blesses us all with the Legacy of Family, Love and Laughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita's name to the Salvation Army and St. Joseph's Catholic Parrish, Otis Orchards, Washington.
